Honobono Yukou / ほのぼの行こう

Honobono Yukou / ほのぼの行こう: “Let’s Go Warm the Heart”

honobono / ほのぼの
“heartwarmingly”
yukou / 行こう
“go intentionally”. This is the volitional form of iku / 行く (“to go”).

The new 3DS game “Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns” (Japanese: Bokujou Monogatari 3-tsu no Sato no Taisetsu na Tomodachi / 牧場物語 3つの里の大切な友だち) is out in Japan, with a North American release coming next year! If you haven’t heard yet (and sorry for missing the initial announcement; I was too busy), its image song is a new song by Oku Hanako.

The game itself is a farming simulation game. The following video is the first trailer for the game, featuring the new song, Honobono Yukou / ほのぼの行こう:

Here’s a more in-depth look at the gameplay:

I hadn’t noticed, but the full song was released about two months ago on the game’s official website along with the lyrics. We’re fortunate enough to have a fan of the game already translate the song. I’ve included my polished version below.

The full song:

According to a blog post, she included some folk instruments in the arrangement to give a feel appropriate for the farming nature of the game. It’s certainly fitting! However, there is something missing: her signature piano. This seems to be one of the few songs that don’t include a piano. It definitely doesn’t sound bad, though; it took me a couple of listens to notice.

For the musically inclined, this is also one of the few songs in 3/4. Actually, no other songs of hers come to mind, but I’m sure this isn’t the only one.

Like Garasu no Hana / ガラスの花, the song she made as the theme for the PSP game “Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X”, I fully expect this to be released as a single sometime later this year, maybe early next year.

Translation

In the morning’s light, the birds are chirping and the white clouds are playing
At the Fruitful Farm in the swaying breeze, the day known as today is born

Water the small flowers with the watering can
I always hear the voice of the cows

Let’s go warm the heart. I can’t thank you enough.
Because you are my precious friends
Within the swaying greenery,
A lone life is growing up

The smell of spring makes the heart bounce. Whistling in the blue skies of summer
Delicious produce, made to ripen in autumn. Winter’s pure white snowscape

Under the sun, let’s sow the small seeds
Each will bloom with its own smile

I’ll walk with you, no matter the time
Because you are my precious friends
Let’s paint a glittering, shining dream
These fun days will continue

Let’s go warm the heart. Thanks to everyone
Because you are my precious friends
Within the swaying greenery,
A lone life is growing up

In the morning light, the birds chirp
The day known as today is born
