Lyrics for Tsumiki / 積木

Tsumiki / 積木: “building blocks”

Being one of her more obscure indies songs, and one of the most unusual at that with only drums instead of piano, Tsumiki was a hard find.

I follow a bot on Twitter, @09876lyrics_bot, that tweets an excerpt from Oku Hanako’s songs every hour. I noticed a few of times that it posted lyrics for Tsumiki and it has apparently posted the whole song over five tweets:

These tweets are recent, but the bot has been posting lyrics for this song since 2012.

Line breaks were determined from this image:

And while I was formatting the lyrics, I noticed an error: @09875lyrics_bot had 許したもの instead of 許したこと (note もの and こと).

Such a novelty item this mini album is. I found the picture above from an auction site and that copy sold for ¥36800, which is over US$300. There’s another one that sold for ¥27000 (over US$200).

All that’s left for this song is a translation. If you have one, please submit it

Roumaji

Futari ga issho ni iru to nandaka ureshikatta

Anata no tonari ni iru kara ja nakute kokoro ga wakatta kara

Yosomi mo shi nai de anata dake wo miru koto ga totemo shiawase datta
Anata no te no naka mo ga iteru sono kurushisa ga ima wa hoshii

Kokoro ga anata no toko ni okizari no mama
Watashi kara me wo sorasu anata no koto wo miteru
Shinjita mono yurushi ta koto te ni ireta mono

  2. The original issue lyric book and photos raises an interesting fan question — are Hanako Oku’s glasses merely a prop?

I saw a post a few years ago, from a radio jock who interviewed her in America. He said that she showed him that her glasses, and that were not prescription — just glass. Can’t say that I believed him however.
The same thing was said about Elvis Costello’s signature glasses when he first came out, which of course is not true at all.

Conspiracy theory: Perhaps this woman goes to great lengths to hide her true self or submits to what a marketing expert at the record company advised.

Fan fantasy: The lady wears glasses. However, image the lucky one who gets to see her in the passionate moment when she takes the glasses off.

What are your thoughts on Oku Hanako?
