Bokutachi ni Dekiru Koto / 僕たちにできること

Bokutachi ni dekiru koto / 僕たちにできること : “What we can do”

bokutachi / 僕たち
“us”. “boku” / 僕 is a personal pronoun and “-tachi” / たち is a pluralizing suffix.
ni / に
A particle indicating a passive agent, similar to “by” in English (as in “I was moved by the song.”).
dekiru / できる
“to be able to”
koto / こと
“thing”

“Bokutachi ni Dekiru Koto” is one of those songs that is guaranteed to get you really absorbed in the song if you’re in the right mood. It’s a beautiful song, both in music and lyrics (I have to put up with a machine translation), and Oku Hanako shows off some powerful vocals.

I recommend listening to it when you feel like being quiet.

Lyrics

Roumaji

Kimi to nagamete iru hikouki gumo
Toki ga nagareru no mo wasureru hodo

Kimi to kawashita yakusoku wo garasukeesu ni kazatte mita
Donna fuu ni kikoeru darou

Bokutachi ni dekiru koto kono yume wo dare ka ni tsutaeru koto
Donna kaze ga fuite mo kagayaku toki ga matte iru kara
Hajimari no toki ha ima
Kawaru koto nai kinou ga aru no naraba
Kawaru koto dekiru ashita ha kitto aru kara

Hito ha yowai mono kimi ha iu kedo
Ai suru mono ga areba tsuyoku mo nareru

Mijikai ito de tsumuide yuku yagate ooki na nuno ni natte
Kimi wo tsutsumi atatameru yo

Bokutachi ni dekiru koto kono sora wo dare ka ni tsutaeru koto
Iroazayaka ni somari donna toki de mo mimamotte kureru

Boku ga ima dekiru koto ougesa na koto sukoshi mo ienai kedo
Marui chikyuu no sumi de kimi no warai goe hibikasetai yo

  2. Is there an English translation to be found?
Even if we do not have English lyrics here, is there a way to find out what the song is about?

    • I’ve tried looking for one with no success. The best I can do is a machine translation, which you can do yourself. I’ll see if one of my friends can take a look at it later because although I was in an advanced English class in high school, I was never any good at analyzing poetry, much less try to extract something from a machine translation.

      • From Pekky:
“I believe this is a song about someone she once knew who left, and now she wants to send them new-found happiness because the future holds mysteries that the present has yet to discover.
I don’t know if she’s reliving the past or trying to thrust herself into the future, but there’s definitely a bittersweet tone to it.”
