Farewell, Picasso

I have some sad news. Oku Hanako’s dog, Picasso, passed away two days ago[jp] in the morning of October 10, 2013 at age 13. I extend my condolences.

It’s strange, I don’t know her dog, nor even Hanako-san herself, yet I feel for her. I guess it goes to show how powerful her music can be.

I felt this song was fitting to share at a time like this. It’s called Ajisai / 紫陽花 , from her 2008 single Ashita Saku Hana / 明日咲く花 .

Lyrics

Roumaji

Sayonara wo ienakatta sono kotoba wa kanashi sugite
Ano yoru ga ame ja nakattara wakare wo kimerare nakatta

Sekaijuu ni futari shika inakereba
Mouichido yarinaosu koto mo dekita kana ?

Mousukoshi mousukoshi watashi ga otona dattara

Sabishikunai yo anata ga inakute mo
Tsuyogaru jibun wo gyutto dakishimete

Mousukoshi mousukoshi watashi ga kodomo dattara

Futari de nagameteta ano hi to onaji ajisai ga saiteru

  5. I am also saddened upon hearing the news of Hanako Oku’s beloved pet of 13 years. It seems like there has been an outpouring of sympathy posted on her latest blog. (As best as I can tell.) I have Google translate automatically translate her webpage, then as best as I can try to “read between the lines” as to what she and others have said.
To change the subject, you chose a perfect song for the moment. The video post on Youtube captures the spirit of the song well (walking through floral gardens, etc.) Listening to that just reminds me “why I love Hanako Oku” …

What are your thoughts on Oku Hanako?
